Ash & Iron
Strategy · Storytelling · Influence

Most strategy is right on the page, and dead on arrival.

I close the gap between what a company means and what it manages to say. Positioning, and the words that carry it, done by the same hand.

The problem I solve

The people who set the direction rarely write the words.

So the meaning leaks out in the handoff. The strategy is sound, the deck is sharp, and then the marketing messages read like everyone else's.

I do both halves of the job, so nothing gets lost between them. Strategy and execution. Thinking and writing. One person from the first idea to the final line.

How I work
i

I do it

You hand me the problem. I come back with the strategy and the words, finished. The homepage, the narrative, the one line everything hangs from.

ii

I keep doing it

Ongoing work in the voice we have built. Posts, campaigns, launches, executive writing. Strategy and content continue together as the business evolves.

iii

I do it with you

A fractional head of marketing. I work alongside your team to set direction, shape the work, and build a consistent point of view across everything you put into the market.

Who you would be working with

A deep obsession with what makes a narrative survive contact with reality.

I've spent the first fifteen years of my career directing strategic communications across agency leadership, in-house brand management, and strategic consulting. I've led brand positioning, campaigns, content, and communications for more than a hundred organizations, from Fortune 500 enterprises to founder-led businesses.

I started as a Junior Copywriter and worked my way into creative leadership at global agencies, before moving across brand, consulting, and strategy. Along the way, I've positioned corporate narratives, launched products, built campaigns, and spent a lot of time stripping the academic fluff out of complex capabilities. The common thread has always been the same: figuring out what a company actually needs to be known for, and finding a way to make that idea hold up in the real world.

That obsession eventually became my work. Today, as Founder and Principal Strategist at Ash & Iron, I work with growth-stage B2B companies. These are organizations where the stakes are high, the offerings are complex, and the market has little patience for another layer of corporate rhetoric. There is usually a good story somewhere in there. I like finding it.

I've also written two books, and writing remains the part of the job I'm least willing to outsource to anyone, human or otherwise.

Outside work, I'm an avid reader, husband, a father to a young son, and a dog who seems convinced she is the more important of the two. They keep me grounded, humble me, and provide considerably better feedback than most clients.
